Indie / Folk Noir. Based in Toronto, Canada, Clara Engel is an independent, multi-faceted artist and musician. She has independently recorded and released eleven albums, and has collaborated with musicians and artists from the UK, Germany, Brazil, Canada, Turkey, Iran, and the US. Engel's music has been played on Italian National Radio, as well as BBC Radio 2, making it onto Tom Robinson's show "BBC Introducing" on several occasions. Her music has been described as "folk noir," "minimalist holy blues from another galaxy," and "sung poetry." Her voice and guitar stylings place her singularly on the genre-map, somewhere between avant-garde torch singer and gothic-blues artist. Her influences span genres and media, amongst them are Vasko Popa, Virginia Woolf, Theodore Roethke, Jim Jarmusch, Arvo Part, Meredith Monk, Robert Johnson, Gillian Welch, and Jacques Brel. Experimental / Neofolk. The person behind KRAFT is Rotterdam based Robert Hofman. After release of debut album "Gelag van Zwartgeklede kraaien" of his band OSEWOUDT which was received very well in the Neo-folk scene he found himself with a gap as live shows don't happen very often in the small scene. One night he attempted to ruin and rebuild a friends jazz demo which later became the very first song of this album called "The Dreadful hours". At first it was all about personal trouble and difficulties of life. Later the love for MUSLIMGAUZE became an influence and being friends with musicians from Ukraine the protests and conflict and even a war in that country became one of the main topics of the story told in this album. Various instruments were bought and used and new friends were made. OSEWOUDT member Stefan Hayes (also black metal band TERZIJ DE HORDE) decided to add music and later Rotterdam based Ukrainian singer/musician Kate Orange, VARUNNA guitarist Dennis Lamb and Richard Leviathan (OSTARA / STRENGTH THROUGH JOY) joined to add to the whole. As it was quite hard to fit this project in a genre it was even more difficult to find a label for but in 2017 KRAFT found a home with Michael Schaffer's OPA LOKA records. [label info]

March 2020, Siberian Nordic Folk Ritual Band NYTT LAND will open a new chapter with the 6th album “CVLT” to take you on a mystic travel – path of Shamans. Ritual songs of ancient Siberia and Scandinavia in an atmospheric mix of traditional throat singing, authentic musical instruments, overdriven guitars and electronic music. Tuomas Rounakari and Jonne Järvelä from Korpiklaani were guest musicians and part of “CVLT”. “CVLT” available on limited CD and VINYL with different artworks created by Ungodly Designs and mastering for CD and vinyl by Anatoly Pakhalenko (Nytt Land).

Caught somewhat unawares in-between along the way, I've managed a for-the-while fixed stay outside Pittsburgh at least for some weeks until... ...well, we'll see.

Though not exactly the Perfect Perch to wait out a storm or complete my life's tasks, I do have a cheap-ish room I can hangout in with access to hot running water, electricity, and internet that that's not paid by the megabyte.
These are things as a traveler I've learned not to take for granted, I'm grateful for them, and I'm sure it's better than many travelers are faced with at this time.

I'll have some space-time to continue some of my catch-up work and, perhaps as important to find every day a little time for to rest, relax and ponder.

My accumulated aromatic travel pack is serving me well to ameliorate incongruities and to adapt as a stranger in a strange land: Oils of cedar, rosemary, various mints, chamomile and a few mysterious bottled mixtures I don't know what's all in there (but they're sure nice!)

La Breiche ("the witch") features Yan Arexis (Stille Volk, Sus Scrofa, Coume Ouarnède, and Common Eider, King Eider), and Patrick Lafforgue (Stille Volk, Sus Scrofa, and Hantaoma). The two musicians are also the creators of the cult festival L'Homme Sauvage, held in Midi-Pyrenees each year. After their 2017 debut Le Mal Des Ardents (CSR 224CD), Le Rite opens a new door, with post-folk sounds close to post-rock, influenced by ancient music, with folk used in a modernist way. Dark, ambient, and yet mystical... deep with grandiose landscapes. The sound of La Breiche is situated at the crossroads of early music and dark ambient; ambient music, industrial music with a strong ritual dimension.
